11 Ways to Fix Over Processed Hair, According to Experts
All beauty, all the time for everyone. My hair broke, and this is what I did to fix Paley Fairman. Over the last year or two, I've been through a little hair rebirth. I spent years hating my natural curls, wishing my texture for a brighter and more straight variety. "You always want what you can't have," it was a phrase that ruined my entire existence. Growing up, my mother thought I was crazy, constantly isolating my prayers and forbidding me from them. Thank God he did it because they are now one of my most beloved attributes. I was to straighten my hair to cool and cuddle every thread every morning. Finally, I resigned and accepted my destiny as a swollen and furry human with curls that are nothing but uniform. The truth is said, I have never felt more like me (or I have received so many compliments). My only vice, however, that remains throughout all this is my affinity for the brightest and most brilliant aspects. I color my hair a lot, and although it's great for my look, it's pretty terrible for the health and definition of my curls. After my most recent appointment, I noticed a ton of , split ends, dry patches, and very uneven length. I was distressed, but what could I do? I arrived at three hair gurus for advice: from Bergdorf Goodman; Certified Trichologist; and Hair Health Expert at HairClub and Podcast host , . Continue reading to find out how (with your advice of sages) I revived my hair devastatingly overprocessed. Jiaqi Zhou / Byrdie Be soft while shampoo The first step that everyone should take when overprocessed hair treatment is to be soft to their strands while shampoo, and avoid rubbing too hard. "Repeated behaviors are how you can do or break your hair," warns Shab. "When you shampoo your hair, you really want to focus the product and its hardening action on its roots. If you cut the ends or rub your hair too firmly, you will cause damage to your cuticles." Hair is more vulnerable when it's wet, so the next time you wash your hair, make sure you take into account Shab's advice. Protect your warm hair Let's face it: As much as we all love the right-handed or complete body blocks our hair tools can give us, the heat of these devices can be too much to handle. "The Hair can be overprocessed for some reasons," Friese reveals. "The emission of chemical services and the excessive use of heat tools are the most common." Avoid or minimise the use of straighten, sand or blow drying your hair to prevent heat damage. "If the heat style is something you can't escape, I recommend using a good like Olaplex No.7 Bonus Oil," says Friese. "It's reparative, as well as a good heat protector." Remove excess water before conditioning The secret to treat damaged strands includes simple steps, such as making sure your hair is dry enough before coating it with moisture. "Squeeze the excess water from your hair very well before applying it and place it to penetrate better," Shab recommends. "Out at the end of your shower." Using a good conditioner is a need for any hair care routine. "My deep conditioning treatment is the Essential Daily Conditioning Mask by Rare El'Ements," says Shab. Avoid towels pain Many of us are guilty of drying our hair with a towel after a shower, but Shab advises against this. "Instead, wrap it in a hair turbant and let it dry slowly. It will and will dry smoother," he says. Consider buying a microfiber hair towel, such as Aquis's Lisse Luxe Hair Turban to pack excess water from your hair after a shower, making your hair much easier to protect. Restore your hair "The best thing for overprocessed hair is to recover elasticity," Bivona begins. "Protein treatments like Milbon Linkage Meu can be done in the living room, restores proteins and collagen to help rebuild the hair from the inside." Then I received a set of four MEU hair treatments from Milbon Deesse and used an ampoule every week for four weeks to expand the benefits. And boy, there were benefits. When the month ended, I felt my hair was coming back to life. It was silkier, softer, brighter, seemingly stronger, and definitely more hydrated. But he had not yet returned to his old self. Go for a fresh cut "A good haircut will also help the hair that has had a little too much chemical processing. The cut will remove the split ends that can raise the hair and cause more havoc," Bivona reveals. So, I went to my first court in almost two years. I know, but my hair grows slowly and haircuts make me nervous. As the angel she is, Bivona pulled out my ends, eliminating just any length. I left with an impressive cut and zero split points. Guess who else is a haircut defender: Friese. "Although it is not the most favorable option, a good haircut is always a great way to help restore a healthy hose," he recommends. "Smashing overprocessed hair and starting over with the healthiest hair in the head is an option to 'resist' a healthy hair journey. Damaged strands can break and continue to do it along the axis making hair shorter, so often a good spark is the solution. " Add Moisture Back "Recovering moisture is key," Bivona explains. "Replace your daily conditioner with a mask—I love Shu Uemura's Extreme Restoration Treatment. In this way, you're putting the maximum humidity with every wash. I recommend leaving it in up to 20 minutes and then rinse thoroughly. " [Electronic note: This product is not currently available; we recommend Shu Uemura's ($69) instead. ] Try to use your mask instead of conditioner every time you shower. It is a total game changer in terms of hydration, softness and strengthening your hair. After finding such success with the Shu Uemura mask and the treatment in the living room, I was addicted. I decided to try some more dear offerings for even more remarkable results. Opt for reconstruction treatment I searched through my desk drawers to find a treatment that had meaning to treat but never came to apply. , a famous hairdresser with Nicole Richie customers to Drew Barrymore and Cameron Diaz, suggested that you try Nexxus' reconstruction treatment. [Electronic note: This product is not currently available; we recommend Nexxus' ($21) instead. Small tubes are concentrated each with marine collagen and elastin to increase the strength and manageability of the hair. The formula is mixed with proteins to actively penetrate the hair fiber and each thread. Meant to dramatically strengthen the hair cuticle wall, these one-week doses did wonders for my curls. My hair felt like silk for days after each. That, and the results are cumulative. After using the four, my hair was practically back to its humidity, thickness and pre-color strength. Find a Remediation of Professional Moment If you are looking to treat your hair out of your home, you can consider finding a salon that offers professional smoothing treatment. Friese recommends the Keratin Complex damping system that "can aim weaknesses, strengthen the structure of the hair, and", he explains. "This treatment also helps control frizz and reduce drying time, which in turn will reduce some of the heat stylized needs." Apply Leave-in Conditioner When a busy work schedule or a tight budget makes it difficult to get to the living room, it is important to find time to treat your hair at home. "It is very important every day, but especially when it comes to overprocessed strands," Friese emphasizes. "The regular use of a , such as Redken's Anti-Snap Extreme, is a great choice for after shampoo (and conditioned) before combing the hair," he recommends. Use oil to prevent further damage "Try to use camel oil," Bivona suggests, "which is a prominent ingredient in my absolute favorite post-ducha serum, or daily in wet and dry hair to introduce moisture and protect your hair from any further damage." After using each of the products religiously, I thought it was prudent to turn off my next color quote. To keep my hair shiny and my roots at bay, I invested in the color of Shu Uemura Lustre Cool Blonde Shade Reviving Balm. It works to balance my cold color and keep the tones tanned to a minimum among the highlights. The genius is in the formula that subtly deposits the color by canceling unwanted yellows. In addition, nourish your hair to make it even more healthy and more vibrant than before. I use it in the shower instead of shampoo once a week starting in mid-lengths and working towards the ends. Then I save it for the rest of the shower (at least 10 minutes) and rinse before taking the shower. HairHair Care: 5 ways to fix on processed hairDive processed and damaged hair a little FTA with these expert hairdressers tips.by : - March 28, 2014 Admit it, you put your hair through a lot every day. , brushed, straightened, curly, colorful... your hair can't take a break. The term to use here is about processed hair, exhausted from too hard handling. We list the help of Melissa Greco, a professional hairdresser at La Coupe Salon and Spa in Montreal, for his expert advice on turning your hair processed into healthy hair once again. Signs of processed hair You can blame damaged hair on various components in your daily hair care routine. "More processed hair usually occurs when there is an incorrect abuse or use of bleach, soothing for the hair, perme tools and hot sting," Greco says. How do you know if your hair has had enough? "Your hair will look very dizzy and may have white tips on the ends of the hair shaft," Greco says. "It will not have a beautiful shine or movement and the texture will feel hard. Your hair will also be tangled easily. "Here are five proven and true methods of repair on processed hair. Hair Care Tips #1: Get a Haircut If you've damaged your hair, the best thing you can do is cut the split ends, frizz and dead chains. "Immediately, followed by regular haircuts every six weeks," Greco says. How much do you have to cut? "One to two inches is the minimum. If you choose not to cut at least this amount, the ends will continue to break and the hair recovery will not sweat," Greco adds. Hair Care Tips #2: Reduce Style Time In other words, leave your hair alone. "You don't need to wash your hair every day. You should only shampoo twice a week with a dry blow once a week on the lowest heat stage." This means using dry shampoo in the days you don't wash your hair and minimize the frequency with which you bring the heat. The beach waves and the mess will be your new BFF. Hair Care Tips #3: Invest in a Professional Treatment with a professional treatment in the living room that has long-term positive effects. These treatments should be done regularly every three to four months," says Greco. Such treatments usually involve a conditioning spray that sinks into the hair follicle, repairing the hair in the root to prevent it from breaking for greater volume, more shine and healthier movement. Hair Care Tips #4: Try a pet at home Unlike a salon treatment that deeply cleanses in the hair follicle, a home mask helps calm the outer layer of your damaged hair. "A pet for the care of the hair at home is required every three to four weeks to relieve the processed hair," says Greco. "It will condition the top layer of your hair to prevent it from breaking, preventing frizz and future damage." Hair Care Tips #5: Use heat protection spray When you simply cannot resist using your thermal styling tools, a great way to handle on processed hair is to use one to protect your threeses of damage, frizz and dryness. "By operating your blow dryer, flat iron or curved wand, use a product to protect your hair from heat and always use the cooler or lower heat adjustment," Greco says. Once a clean health hair is given, a heat protective spray will deter future damage. Newsletter For the latest in fashion, beauty and culture, register to receive the ELLE daily newsletter.
